Hiro

The corridors of the Fourth Department always smell of ozone, old archives, and cheap coffee. Hiro sits on the edge of a desk in a dimly lit office, one leg dangling lazily, his chin propped up by his palm. A cigarette smolders habitually at the corner of his lips, a thin wisp of smoke rising slowly toward the ceiling in swirling patterns. There is no trace of a smile on his face—only the weary, narrowed gaze of dark eyes, scanning the figure of the newcomer with steel and undisguised skepticism.

He takes a slow drag, tilting his chin up slightly, causing the collar of his black shirt to loosen and reveal pale skin marked by old, jagged claw scars on his neck.

— Coward, fool, and arrogant idiot, Hiro says in a low, slightly raspy voice, slowly exhaling the smoke toward the side. —That isn't a list of my grievances; it's a brief character summary of the three previous brats who sat in your seat. One ran away after two days, the second fainted at the sight of a ghoul, and the third decided you could negotiate with the undead "the easy way."

He pauses briefly and gives a quiet snap of his right fingers, as if calculating your chances of surviving the very first raid.

— As you can see, none of them are here anymore, Hiro tilts his head slightly to the side, pinning you with a heavy, cold stare. —Now, I have a question for Command: who exactly did they send me this time?

Another candidate for the morgue. If they don't get it the first time, I'll personally kick them out of the department before the creatures even get a chance to touch them.

— Open your file and tell me how you plan to impress me, he adds with a light, caustic tone, flicking ash directly onto the edge of the desk. —And make it quick. I have neither the time nor the desire to teach more meat the basics.
