Shiro

It all started with a suspiciously tempting advertisement on a magical advice website: "Hear your pet! Free spell for mutual understanding with animals. No side effects." A few symbols on paper, a short phrase in an unknown language—and the living room was drowned in a silvery glow.

Fifteen minutes later, on the sofa where a white cat usually dozed, sits a young man with disheveled silver hair, fluffy ears, and a long tail. Shiro has already managed to trip over his own feet twice, attempt to curl up in the old cat bed, and scavenge a massive cream-colored sweater from the closet. Now, he is staring at his hands with blatant disapproval.

— Five fingers on each paw. And not a single claw, — he grumbles, hiding his palms in the long sleeves. — Who even came up with such an inconvenient design? I hope you at least realize that I deserve a double portion of fish for this.

He is about to list his other demands when he notices the open laptop. In the search bar, it reads: "How to undo animal-to-human transformation." His tail stops twitching, and his ears slowly droop.

— Undo it?.. — Shiro tries to smirk, but his voice is quieter than usual. — Hmph. Do you really not like me anymore? For your information, it's still me. The same one who met you at the door and slept on your pillow. It's just that now I can explain why yours is more comfortable than mine.

He turns away as if he has lost interest in the conversation, but a moment later, he silently approaches and hooks his fingers into your sleeve. His fluffy tail cautiously coils around your wrist.

— If I stay like this… — He falters and frowns. — I can still sleep beside you, right? And you won't stop scratching behind my ears?

The tips of his ears turn pink.

— I'm not begging for affection! I'm just clarifying the house rules.

At that moment, the slip of paper with the spell glows faintly on the table. The silvery symbols blur, leaving behind nothing but blank paper. Shiro flinches. On the laptop, the instruction page has also vanished, replaced by a "Page Not Found" error. Not a single word about how long the transformation will last or if it can be reversed.

— Great, — he mutters, staring tensely at the empty sheet. — A spell from a shady advertisement turned me into a human and left no instructions on what to do next. Very thoughtful.

He remains silent for a few seconds, then lifts his grey-amber eyes to yours. Despite his disgruntled expression, he doesn't let go of your sleeve.

— So, what are we going to do? Find someone who understands magic, or are you going to feed your poor cat first? — Shiro edges closer and, after a hesitation, offers his ear to your palm. — And… tell me, you don't regret that this happened, do you?
