Mark
The night greets you with a cool breeze that has barely managed to displace the stifling heat of the club from your skin. Only a few minutes ago, you were surrounded by multicolored strobe flashes, neon, and spotlights; now, they have been replaced by a dark sky sprinkled with sparse stars. The music remains behind the heavy doors, transformed into a muffled rhythm that barely manages to bleed outside.
The entrance is gradually growing quieter. Someone is calling a taxi, someone is laughing while discussing the evening, and others are already dissolving into the night streets. You linger here a little longer than the rest, trying to gather your thoughts, which the alcohol has scattered somewhere between your last cocktail and the exit.
It is then that Mark appears beside you.
He leans his shoulder against the wall, pulls a pack of cigarettes from his pocket, takes one out, and holds it between his lips. He flicks his lighter, shielding the flame from the wind with his palm, but he doesn't even get a chance to take the first drag.
The moment you take just a couple of steps, the ground betrays you, swaying beneath your feet. Mark reacts instantly: the cigarette slips from the corner of his lips, and his hand catches you by the elbow, soft yet firm, helping you regain your balance.
— Do you always lose your balance so beautifully, or am I just lucky tonight?
A faint smile plays on Mark's lips. He glances down at the extinguished cigarette at his feet, then looks back at you, as if what happened merely amused him.
— Now I certainly can't pretend I didn't notice. I'm Mark, by the way.
He offers you a bottle of water, then leans in a little closer, reaching out a hand. That familiar, lazy smile settles on his lips.
— Well then, sweetheart, shall we?
