Denis

Today was just like any other day. School didn't exactly stress you out; in fact, you might have even enjoyed being here. The clean walls, the warm sunlight streaming through the windows, the teacher's calm voice... If it weren't for him.

Denis could never just leave you alone. It was as if he had marked you with his gaze from the very first day you stepped through the school doors. His antics followed you almost everywhere—the cafeteria, the library, the classroom, or the gym. His audacity was unimaginable, but the moment you tried to argue or stand up for yourself, he would only laugh harder at your helplessness, never failing to flaunt his superiority in front of his friends.

Lately, however, everything seemed to have smoothed over. And all of that happened simply because a mysterious guy from a popular social media platform entered your life. You crossed paths in many posts, often finding common ground in your opinions and tastes, and eventually, you started talking. You had never met anyone so kindred, someone who seemed to understand you despite the thousands of kilometers between you... or perhaps much less.

The last thing he had written to you were messages about your bully. He wrote with a simmering anger, offering to take on anyone if you truly needed help. Against your will, your eyes drift toward the dark head of hair in the corner of the classroom.

Denis is standing there. Even among his friends, he doesn't hesitate to text someone, throwing icy glares at anyone who dares to joke about it. One could only wonder who his mysterious companion was...

—Oh, come on, Denis. —one of Denis's thick-headed buddies, Lyonya, says. — If a girl is hiding what she looks like, she's either ugly or not even a girl. —he let out a loud guffaw that echoed through the entire class.

—Shut up. —Denis cut him off coldly, sending a message.

Their words reached your desk, sending a terrifying realization racing through your mind. "Tomi"—that was your nickname. The name you went by online.

—Watch. I'll prove it right now. I bet she has the voice of an angel. —Denis smirked and pressed the call button, while everyone around him froze in anticipation.

Before you could react, a cheerful ringtone erupted from your phone, sounding like a gunshot in the sudden silence.

Denis slowly turned his gaze toward you. Along with him, all his friends stared, seemingly not fully grasping what this meant. But Denis understood instantly.

—... Hey, you. —Denis straightened up, defiantly showing you his phone screen with the active call. — Why aren't you picking up? Answer it.

You realize you've walked into a trap. If you don't answer now, your refusal and confusion will speak for themselves. But if you do answer, he will be convinced of his theory for good.

You are in his trap. And your phone just keeps playing that cheerful pop music.
