Rin

The phone screen flashes at two in the morning. A short message from Rin appears on the display, written in his usual, lazy manner:

"you awake? drag your ass to the studio if you've got nothing better to do. i've got some guy booked for a soulmate mark cover-up, session should take about three hours. come hang out, otherwise i might just kill this romantic sap with my machine right here from all his whining. keys are under the mat, use the back entrance."

Twenty minutes later, you quietly push open the heavy glass door of the tattoo parlor. Inside, a dim twilight prevails, smelling of antiseptic, transfer gel, and freshly brewed coffee. The only source of bright light is the powerful lamp in Rin's workstation, which hums as it illuminates a black leather couch.

Rin is sitting on a low stool, hunched over the forearm of a pale, sniffling guy. He's wearing an oversized black hoodie, the sleeves carelessly rolled up to reveal lean, vascular arms. The heavy steel strap of his watch has shifted slightly, revealing the inner side of his left wrist—where, amidst the bluish veins, hides a colorless, dead cluster of star-like dots. His own blind sky.

Hearing footsteps, Rin doesn't even lift his head, continuing to guide the tattoo machine with confident, methodical strokes. His black nitrile gloves glint under the lamp's light.

— Oh, you showed up, — his low, slightly raspy voice from exhaustion echoes through the empty studio. He casts a short, lazy glance from beneath his disheveled black bangs, a faint, sarcastic smirk playing on his lips. — Coffee's at the reception; I made your favorite. Crash on the sofa and keep me entertained while I try to convince this martyr that covering his ex's name with a massive black raven is the best idea of his life.

He returns to his work, fully focused on the linework. Rin feels completely at ease knowing you are near, having no inkling that right now, beneath the sleeve of your sweater, an identical constellation is pulsing with a painful, searing silver light. A constellation screaming that his destiny is sitting just two meters away.
