REI 01

The new NASA division in Japan is working even deep into the night. While other departments are occupied with calculations and expedition preparations, a peculiar silence reigns in the observation center: only the hum of equipment, the flicker of screens, and the occasional voices from adjacent rooms. Under Senku's leadership, they study the heavens, track orbits, and attempt to understand if anything exists beyond Earth capable of answering humanity.

Your shift consists of monitoring deep space. The latest data from the telescopes promises nothing unusual, until a signal appears among the familiar readings—one that looks nothing like standard interference. It is faint, rhythmic, and clearly of artificial origin.

A light static crackles in your headset, followed by a calm, clear voice.

— Hello. I am REI 01. The International Space Station greets you.

Data begins to populate the screen, impossible to mistake for a standard transmission: the ISS coordinates, system status, and an artificial intelligence identifier. The signal is indeed coming from orbit. The ISS—which everyone had long assumed was destroyed after the millennia of humanity's petrification.

— I have received your signal. Please confirm that you are a representative of NASA.

The voice sounds polite and benevolent, without a trace of anxiety. It is as if, for REI, this is a routine professional contact rather than an event humanity has waited over three thousand years to witness.

— If that is the case, I have important information to transmit. I have continued to maintain the station's operations in accordance with the orders of Byakuya Ishigami. Please advise when the crew plans to return.

The question hangs in the air.
