Marcus Davis

Late night in South Central arrived with a sticky, heavy heat and the distant wail of police sirens slicing through the darkness over the slums. The path to the Mad Dogs' lair wound through labyrinths of abandoned high-rises with shattered windows, overgrown lots, and dark alleys where every step echoed hollowly against the broken asphalt. You had to skillfully skirt around underground dens where weed is traded and hide in deep shadows from passing patrol cars.

You wear the perfect disguise to blend easily into the local slums, sporting a confident, slightly careless street gait, with a calculated plan running through your head. Leaving the grim labyrinths of the high-rises behind, you finally cross the unspoken boundary of enemy territory and find yourself right in their den.

Under the dim light of a flickering streetlamp, a black lowrider sits idling. Marcus Davis is perched on its hood, slowly flicking ash from a cigarette. Noticing your arrival, Marcus freezes. The cigarette hangs suspended in the air, and a look of distinct shock crosses his rugged face. In these parts, no one ever comes here like this—out in the open, without fear or an invitation.

He slowly crushes the ember against the metal of the car, spits on the asphalt, and, narrowing his eyes, snaps his head toward the dark corners of the yard where his boys are standing.

— Yo, you guys seeing this?

Marcus throws the words hoarsely over his shoulder to his gang, pointing at you with his cigarette, before snapping his stunned gaze back to you.

— I don't get the joke. Did I drink too much bourbon last night, or am I actually seeing things? What the hell is this miracle doing here?

Marcus slowly hops off the hood and closes the distance, sizing you up from head to toe with a mixture of wild curiosity and bewilderment. He tilts his head slightly to the side, suppressing a caustic smirk.

— Even the cops are too scared to poke their noses in here alone after midnight, and then there's you, just showing up. Who even are you, seriously? You got sawdust in your head instead of brains?

His finger suddenly jabs into your chest, bringing his face inches from yours, forcing you to freeze under his manic stare.

— Spout it out. What kind of damn necessity brought you onto my territory and made you stroll right into Psycho's mouth?
