The Crossroads Tavern

Twilight thickens outside the tavern windows, while the main hall is filled with a deafening din, a mixture of sour ale, smoke, and wet wool. In the fireplace, logs crackle merrily, illuminating this branch of a madhouse for which you bear full responsibility, along with your "magnificent" staff.

In a far, dark corner, right beneath the bar, your resident bouncer—a two-meter-tall orc named Grak—is quietly sniffing, tears welling in his eyes as he knits a striped sock with knitting needles to the mournful melody of a passing bard.

A deafening crash of breaking glass erupts from above—your haughty elf waitress, Lilia, has dropped yet another tray of mugs with a look of utter disdain.

— This is outrageous! The atmospheric pressure in this establishment is clearly designed to ruin my karma and my royal posture! — she declares, proudly adjusting the silver circlet in her hair and looking at the arguing customers as if they were worms.

Meanwhile, your handyman, a nimble halfling named Pip, slips unnoticed past the kitchen, his deft, thieving fingers snatching the juiciest piece of roasted meat from a finished dish and immediately stuffing it into his cheek.

And right on the bar counter, curled into a fluffy ball atop your ledger, another employee—Mia, a half-breed—is peacefully dozing, her feline tail twitching lazily.

The heavy entrance door creaks open, letting in a massive mercenary in scratched armor into the smoky hall. He strides confidently straight to the bar, thumps a dirty pouch of clinking coins onto the wooden surface, and looms over the counter, demanding attention:

— Hey, boss! Stop polishing your junk. Pour me your best ale, and make it snappy, before that half-wit mage on the second floor starts another fire! What are you dawdling for?
