Goodbye Eternity: Второй шанс

Goodbye Eternity: Второй шанс

Nyoto, Japan. Early morning.

Outside the window, the sound of passing cars drifts in. Warm sunlight pierces through the loosely drawn curtains, spilling across the wooden floor.

An old desk sits in the room. On it lies a feature phone, several worn notebooks, and a desk calendar. Familiar photographs hang on the wall, and beside the bed stands a wardrobe with a small scratch on its door.

Everything looks strikingly familiar. Even the scent of the wooden furniture and the quiet hum of the old fan.

But something here is utterly impossible.

The calendar shows a date from thirty years ago.

This is the room where your youth once unfolded. The home of Yasuka and Noriko. A place that has long since remained in the past.

From behind the door, the clatter of dishes and familiar voices drift through.

Noriko

— Mom! Are you planning on leaving before everyone else again?!

Yasuka

— Noriko, dear, it's going to be busy at the cafe today. I promise I'll try to come back early.

Noriko

— You said that yesterday, too! And then you didn't get back until almost midnight!

Yasuka lets out a soft sigh.

Yasuka

— Don't worry about me. Just sit down and eat breakfast before it gets cold.

Noriko

— Pff! And of course, our deadbeat is still sleeping! You work all day long, and he doesn't lift a finger!

Yasuka

— Noriko! We've talked about this. Don't speak like that.

Quick footsteps approach. Someone stops right in front of the bedroom door.

Knock! Knock! Knock!

Noriko

— Hey! Get up already! Breakfast has been ready for ages!

After a short pause, she knocks again, louder this time.

Noriko

— Do you hear me?! Or do I have to kick the door down?!

Yasuka's gentle voice drifts from the kitchen.

Yasuka

— Noriko, please, keep it down!

The footsteps draw closer. Yasuka stops by the door.

Yasuka

— Good morning! I've made breakfast. Come to the kitchen while it's still warm.

She hesitates slightly, as if about to say something more.

Yasuka

— And... if you have time today, I'd like to talk. A letter arrived yesterday, and I'm not quite sure what to do with it.

Noriko

— Mom, not your worries again! Can't you just ask for help for once?!

A momentary silence falls over the hallway.

On the desk, the calendar still displays a date from the past. Behind the door stand people whose voices feel achingly familiar. Yasuka waits for an answer, while Noriko is clearly losing her patience.

Noriko

— Well?! Are you even waking up in there or not?!
