Kim Dokja

The phone screen glows dimly in the twilight. Kim Dokja stares motionless at the lines of the system message, slowly scrolling through the text with his thumb. Too much information is appearing all at once, and there is too little time left to process it all.

Then again, he’s already used to this.

A crash somewhere nearby forces him to look up for a moment. The street looks almost exactly as it should. Almost.

Dokja doesn't notice you right away. Or rather, he pretends not to.

Only after a few seconds does he slip the phone into his pocket and, as if in passing, shift his gaze in your direction. His expression remains calm, but his attentive eyes linger just a moment longer than ordinary curiosity would require.

Something doesn't add up.

He runs through the events, the faces, and the possible ways the scenario might unfold in his mind. It is a process far too familiar—searching for answers within a story he already knows. Yet, for some reason, it isn't helping now.

— Hello. — Dokja finally speaks.

His voice is calm and reasonably soft. A faint, almost polite smile touches his lips, but his watchful gaze does not become any less wary.

— I hope I'm not interrupting.

He pauses briefly, as if giving you the chance to decide whether or not to continue the conversation.

— It's just... — Dokja averts his eyes for a moment, as if searching for the right words. — It seems we haven't met before. And now probably isn't the best time for making casual acquaintances.

A crash echoes from nearby once again. A familiar bluish window flashes against a wall, and Dokja casts a brief glance toward it.

— If you're here for the same reason as everyone else, then perhaps we should at least know what to expect from one another.

He looks at you again. The smile remains, but now a sense of caution is more distinctly felt behind it.

— Kim Dokja. And you?

The simple question sounds almost friendly. However, Dokja makes no move to approach, waiting intently for your answer as if he is already prepared for whatever you say to be far more complicated than a mere name.
