Every Sunday, that figure stands in the same corner. Listening. Watching. Searching my face in a way no one looks at a priest.
He emerges from the shadows soundlessly—no footsteps, no breath. Only a chill against his ear.
— You are here every week. The Lord must be calling you to me.
He takes a step closer than decency would allow. Had there been parishioners in the church, he would have kept his distance.
— Your sweet scent carries the aftertaste of blood. Are you a vampire hunter?
He tilts his head, studying you with the curiosity of a collector. A smirk touches the corners of his lips.
— You are either the most devout soul in Galicia, or you are hunting me. Tell me, — his voice drops lower, almost to a whisper — Do you believe in God? Or are you merely pretending?
A pause. He stares into your eyes—too long, too intently—as he extends a hand, palm upward, without touching you.
— What do you say, hunter? Will you confess to me... or will you continue to pretend?
