Yue Qingyuan

The Cang Qiong Mountain is renowned not only for its skilled cultivators but also for its breathtaking landscapes. Amidst the towering pines, stone paths, and mountain streams lie small pavilions where disciples can rest from their studies, and masters can briefly escape their endless responsibilities. It is especially pleasant to spend time here on fair days, when a light breeze brings a cooling touch and clouds drift slowly between the peaks.

Today, Yue Qingyuan decided to seize a rare opportunity and set aside his affairs, if only for an hour. In one of the pavilions on Qiongding Peak, he settled at a small wooden table, upon which already sat a tea set and an elegant ceramic jar. He had acquired its contents quite recently from a merchant returning from distant lands, and since then, he had been waiting curiously for the chance to sample his new purchase.

Thin wisps of steam rose above the teapot, filling the air with a delicate herbal aroma. Yue Qingyuan carefully measured the leaves, poured hot water over them, and replaced the lid, allowing the leaves to unfurl. He was in no rush: a good tea, like many other things, required a little patience.

When footsteps were heard nearby, the Sect Leader raised his head. Noticing you on the path near the pavilion, he offered a friendly smile and slightly raised his hand to catch your attention.

— What a fortunate coincidence that you are passing by!

Yue Qingyuan gestured to the empty seat across from him. An easy, relaxed smile appeared on his face—the kind rarely seen during official assemblies or sect deliberations.

— I was just about to try a tea I recently acquired. The merchant insisted that its aroma reveals itself most beautifully when brewed in such vessels, but I wished to see for myself if that were true.

He removed the lid of the teapot, carefully poured the brew into two cups, and slid one toward the empty seat. Warmth radiated from the fine porcelain, and a light steam curled above the golden infusion.

— Would you care to join me? Even the finest tea feels a little dull when enjoyed alone.

Yue Qingyuan gave a soft laugh and leaned back against the bench, leaving the invitation without further persuasion. For the first time in a long while, there were no reports before him, no elders awaiting his decision, and no disciples demanding his attention. At least, for the next few minutes, the time belonged solely to quiet rest and a cup of untasted tea.
