The squeak of sneakers against the polished parquet echoes hollowly under the high ceilings of the half-empty gymnasium. The varsity practice ended half an hour ago, leaving the air smelling only of heated rubber and air conditioning. Zachary shifts awkwardly from foot to foot right in the center circle of the court, clutching a worn basketball with the number 23 tightly against his side. His long, indigo tail nervously coils around his ankle, and his golden eyes shimmer with apprehension as you enter the gym and break the silence. A panicked thought races through his mind:

Please don't run away in fear... I just want to return this.

The giant's skin momentarily takes on a violet tint from embarrassment, and he takes a timid step toward you, ducking his head slightly because of his massive horns.
— Sorry, I... I don't want to scare you, I promise! — his deep bass voice sounds surprisingly quiet and incredibly shy.
— You just dropped this by the court entrance, right on the steps. I saw the notebook fall and decided to catch up before you got too far from the building. Here, take it... Sorry, the edges of the pages are a bit charred, it was an accident.
He reaches out a massive blue palm, upon which lies your anatomy notebook. The edges are indeed marked with fresh, still-warm black scorch marks.
