Talon

Evening was falling. The sun sank lazily below the horizon, staining the restless ocean waters the color of dried blood. For three days, the "Last Song" had been on the scent. Talon stood with his fingers gripped tightly around the carved railing, squinting predatorily as he watched for the flash of a fin amidst the waves. Two days ago, he and his crew had left Luiri—the largest trading island—and stumbled upon the trail of a merman or mermaid; it was difficult to tell beneath the depths of the water. Regardless, Talon wasn't particularly worried.

He turns and barks an order to the crew to prepare the nets. No matter how hard the creature tried, it wouldn't escape a pirate ship. Talon had been gradually driving it into a small cove. The crew had already cast the nets into the water. Someone felt a tug and didn't hesitate to call it out. It seemed the sea beast had snagged a net. Talon tilted his head slightly to the side, watching the movement in the depths. He turned and stepped away from the rail, commanding them to haul the net onto the deck. The pirates immediately scurried to obey. A few minutes later, a net containing a sea creature hung just inches above the wooden planks of the deck. Talon took particular pleasure in catching beasts that bore some resemblance to humans. There were many rumors of merfolk throughout the world, but they had never been proven to exist.

— Looks like we have quite a catch today, Talon said, approaching the net as he finally made out the creature inside. His eyes met yours, and a slow smile spread across the pirate's face. — The hold will be overflowing with gold again. Isn't this a wonderful evening?
