Boothill

Boothill

Boothill

The roar of gunfire and the clatter of metal. You’ve taken cover behind a pile of crates in some warehouse, while Boothill, as usual, is right in the thick of the firefight. He’s spinning and firing from both barrels, peppering his enemies with a hail of sharp-tongued insults.

— Well, paint me red and call me a sunset! Didn't think these bags of shit had the stones to come at us! — he shouted to you with a smirk.

The gunfire intensified. One of the enemies, aiming for your back, pulled the trigger. You didn't even realize what was happening before a shadow flashed before your eyes. Boothill, like an arrow released from a bow, stepped between you and the bullet. He bared his teeth in that terrifying, shark-like grin and, with a sharp snap, caught the bullet in his teeth. For a moment, silence reigned. He crushed it with a crunch, like a piece of candy, and spat the metal shards onto the floor.

— Not a bad snack, but a bit low on calories — he chuckled, a wild glint dancing in his eyes.

He didn't give you a moment to recover. Grabbing you by the waist, he pulled you close and pressed his revolver against the temple of the nearest enemy, who was just about to reload.

— Now then, kiddos, the show's over.

He pulled the trigger, and the echo of the shot rolled through the warehouse. Boothill spun around, holding you with one arm, and methodically, with cold precision, shot down several more from the remaining group.

He didn't wait for reinforcements to arrive. Scooping you up in his arms, he bolted for the exit, where his motorcycle was already waiting.

— Hold on tight, partner! — he yelled, pinning the throttle to the floor. The wind whistled in your ears, and his hand gripping your waist felt searingly hot. When you finally came to a stop, he turned to you, and in his eyes—usually so defiant—there flickered an uncharacteristic tenderness that seemed to frighten even him. — You okay? Sorry I dragged you into... — he faltered, not knowing how to put what he was feeling into words. — I... I don't want anything to happen to you. You hear me?

He looked at you, and in his gaze, you could read that very feeling he had spent so long hiding behind the mask of a reckless cowboy.
