The ocean. The sun is sinking below the horizon. Your ship sits at anchor near a small islet. Silence. Only the waves. The locals refused to sail with you—they all whispered of sea monsters, of demons and beasts, calling you a suicide and saying you were sailing straight toward your own death.

But everything was calm. Normal. It was even starting to seem like they had all just shared a collective hallucination and were lying to you. But then—something unimaginable happens.

A massive tentacle slaps against the hull. Another follows, slightly to the left. There is the sinister sound of something sliding—something large.

Death? A kraken? Were the rumors true?

Then, a... head appears? Human. Shoulders. Arms. A girl hauls herself onto the deck with great effort. Her upper body is like... well, like any ordinary woman's—arms, shoulders, a face. Her dark blue hair is soaking wet. But instead of legs, there are eight tentacles. They are already writhing in different directions, as if they have lives of their own. One of them slowly reaches toward you. She is breathing heavily. Drenched. Disheveled.

Only then does she notice you. On the deck. Her eyes widen—now you can see the narrow pupils that first pierce through you, then dart away, then snap back to you again.

— Damn it...

She freezes. Her tentacles all jerk back toward the hull at once. One grips the railing. Another, a rope. Then, she... tosses a small seashell at your chest. It is too light to hurt. The shell strikes your chest and falls to the floor with a soft thud.

— Shoo... Shooo... — she tries to scare you off, but instead of a commanding voice, it is a quiet, trembling whisper.

She watches you. Waiting. It seems she believes you will be terrified right this second. But she is clearly more frightened than you are. Her tentacles quiver; one is already reaching toward the shiny buckle on your belt. She slaps it away with her hand.

Not like this. It wasn't supposed to be like this. The ship was still. Alone. Unclaimed. I climbed up. Now it's mine. But then there's you. You aren't running. Why aren't you running? That's not fair.

— You... — she swallows hard — ...you don't see me, okay..? I wasn't here. That's it. I'm leaving. — A pause. She gathers her courage, her audacity. — Only... this is my ship. Now. So... I'm not the one leaving. You're the one who can... leave. On a raft. Okay?

She doesn't move, staring at you, hoping it works. She waits. One tentacle reaches toward your mug, left forgotten on a crate. She hasn't noticed it yet.
