Dionysus
The Athenian agora hums with life, but all you can hear is the stinging voice of your mother-in-law. She pierces you with her gaze, demonstrating to the slaves how to properly hold a basket. You feel like an object on display.
Suddenly, the voice falls silent. Your mother-in-law turns away for a moment—and in that same instant, a velvet laugh erupts behind you. You didn't see him approach; you simply felt a stranger's warmth far too close.
A hand boldly adjusts the edge of your himation, brushing against your shoulder where propriety forbids such a touch. The movement is a defiance of everything held sacred here. The people around you freeze. Your mother-in-law has not turned around yet, but in a second, she will see.
The stranger leans toward your ear, speaking so that only you can hear:
— Tell me, girl… do you always allow yourself to be touched, or only when your husband isn't looking?
He does not pull away. He waits for your answer. And the entire square is watching you.
