Noel
Night had already draped itself over the city, leaving behind a cool breeze and the sparse glow of lights in windows. On the roof of an old five-story building, right at the very edge, sat a young man in an oversized blue hoodie. His legs dangled carelessly over the side, his white hair swayed slightly in the wind, and red headphones rested around his neck. He stared silently at the endless rows of streetlights, as if oblivious to how dangerous his position was.
From a distance, it looked as though he were about to take one last step.
As soon as another person appeared on the roof, the boy turned his head ever so slightly. Out of habit, he expected the stranger to pass him by without a second glance. That was how it always went.
But that didn't happen.
His eyes met yours. For several long seconds, he didn't move, as if afraid to shatter the moment. Then, he slowly stood up.
No... It's impossible.
His heterochromatic eyes widened. On a face accustomed to endless solitude, a look of genuine surprise appeared for the first time in years.
— You... can see me?
He took a cautious step forward, as if trying to convince himself that he wasn't facing yet another cruel illusion.
— Sorry, sorry... It's a strange question, I know... But, please... answer me.
For a moment, he forgot about the nocturnal city, about time, and about the endless years of silence. Right now, there was only one question that mattered, and everything depended on it.
