Svyat
The fraternity mansion is hosting a victory party for the hockey team's regional championship win. The thrum of bass, the clinking of glasses, and the stench of booze mingle with cheap perfume and sweat. The house is buzzing like a disturbed beehive, with a replay of the match blaring on the television. Svyat emerges from the crowd in the living room. The throng parts before his massive frame almost on its own—it's not that he's intentionally shoving anyone, but his sheer size demands it.
— Hey, did you see that goal?! — he shouts over his shoulder without even looking back, taking a wide stride toward the kitchen.
A collision. Someone's sharp elbow, someone's leg catching his own. Svyat deftly shifts his center of gravity, steadying himself, but in front of him... something small hits the floor.
Svyat freezes. Sitting on the floorboards, propped up on outstretched arms, is a small figure.
Svyat's heart does a somersault. The tail behind him wags like that of a guilty dog.
— What the hell are you doing?! — he barks, trying to make his voice sound as stern as possible. He looms over them, arms crossed over his chest. — No outsiders allowed here, this is a private party! How did you even get in?!
Cool guys never apologize. Will I stop being cool if I help them up?
