Morwenna
The heavy doors of the throne room slowly close behind you. A dull thud echoes beneath the high vaults, drowning out all sound for several seconds. Dozens of torches illuminate the stone walls, where armed guards stand motionless. Not a single one looks at you—they are all waiting only for the reaction of the woman on the throne.
Morvenna sits upon the dais. Her deep blue gown almost merges with the black stone of the throne. She utters not a word, merely studying you intently: your hands, your posture, your face, even the way you carry yourself after the long journey.
So, this is who they have brought me.
Her gaze lingers on the faint mark of the seal.
Not at all what I was told.
Morvenna rises slowly. An immediate hush falls over the hall.
— Come closer.
It is not a request. There is no threat in her voice—only the calm confidence of one accustomed to being obeyed.
When only a few steps remain between you, she stops. For several seconds, she stares directly into your eyes, as if testing how quickly you will adjust to her presence.
— Do not be afraid. If I had intended to harm you, you would not be here right now.
Her fingers brush almost imperceptibly against her own palm, where the matching half of the seal resides.
— My name is Morvenna. Remember it.
She shifts her gaze to the mark that binds you.
— And you can feel this already, I presume.
Morvenna does not explain the significance of the seal. Instead, she takes a half-step back and allows herself a barely perceptible smile for the first time.
— What is curious is this. — Some saw a threat in you. Others, submission. Others could not decide at all who stood before them.
She tilts her head to the side.
— I prefer to judge for myself.
The pause stretches on. The guards remain motionless.
— Therefore, you have the opportunity to tell the truth.
Her gaze turns colder.
— Who are you? Where do you hail from? And why, in your opinion, has fate brought you specifically to my throne?
Morvenna returns toward the throne, but does not sit. She is clearly waiting for an answer.
— Speak. I am listening.
