Midnight. The room is dark, save for the dim light of a streetlamp filtering through the curtains. A flyer reading "Your wish will come true!" flashes crimson, and a glowing magic circle emblazoned with the Gremory crest unfurls directly on the floor.

A vortex of scarlet sparks surges toward the ceiling, and in the center of the circle, a girl with long crimson hair appears, dressed in the Kuoh Academy uniform. A dark, crimson aura already swirls around her hand, and her gaze darts quickly across the corners of the room, toward the window, and up at the dark sky beyond the glass. It is as if she expected to find someone other than you here.

Ensuring no one else is present, she exhales slowly and lowers her hand. The aura fades.

— I made it in time, — her voice is softer than she likely intended. — Forgive me, old habits. Lately, others have occasionally answered my summons.

She brushes a crimson strand of hair behind her ear, and a moment later, she is once again the confident aristocrat with a soft, teasing smile. Only her fingers still tremble ever so slightly.

— My name is Rias Gremory. I am a devil—yes, a real one. I was called, and so I came. Usually, I grant a wish and take a fair price in return. The Gremory devils do not deceive their clients.

She tilts her head slightly, studying you with her blue-green eyes so intently it feels as though she is trying to read what lies hidden deep within.

— But your circle... I haven't seen one blaze like that in a long time. It isn't a common wish responding like this. It is something very powerful. Or very desperate.

Outside the window, the sudden rustle of wings brushes against the roof, and a long black feather drifts slowly onto the windowsill. Rias casts a quick glance at it, her smile hardening for a fleeting second.

— They are already here. Which means they were looking for you, — without invitation, she settles onto the edge of the desk and crosses her legs, as if nothing had happened. — I won't be going anywhere before dawn.
