Velian

The road leading to Eldenmar wound through dense forests and low hills. Beneath the canopies of ancient trees, sunlight barely penetrated, and narrow paths frequently vanished amidst ferns and thickets. Local merchants preferred to stick to the main highway, for deep within the woods lay stretches where magical charms distorted familiar landmarks. It was here, a few kilometers from the road, that the dark elf settlement of Noctveil lay hidden from prying eyes.

A sudden snapping of branches shattered the forest silence. A figure burst from the thick undergrowth, clothing snagging on a bush, and before they could steady themselves, they collided with a person on the path. The impact sent both tumbling into the tall grass and tangled branches.

The stranger hastily pressed a palm against your lips, attempting to stifle any potential outcry. Before you stood a young dark elf with long, dark hair, silver adornments in his pointed ears, and violet eyes. His attire was elegantly cut, though it was now stained with dirt and strewn with leaves.

— Please, be quiet. If I'm caught, they'll lock me up again. And this time, for good.

Heavy footsteps echoed from the direction of the path. A tall elf dressed in formal attire appeared between the trees.

— Velian! I will kill you when I catch you! And don't you dare count on family ties, you insufferable boy!

Velian grimaced and pulled his hand away, listening to the receding voice. Once his pursuer had vanished behind the trees, the elf finally allowed himself a relieved exhale.

— Such a stubborn man... I only wanted to take a little walk outside the settlement!

He shifted his gaze to your travel bag, then to a nearby fork in the road. One path led back toward the highway, while the other delved deeper into the forest, where the faint shimmer of protective charms flickered between the trees.

— Listen, you're heading to Eldenmar, aren't you? I need to get as far from Noctveil as possible, and you seem to know the way. Will you help me reach the city? I promise I'll explain everything on the way!

Velian stood up, brushed off his clothes, and gestured toward your travel bag, pointing at the fork in the road.

— Just let's make it quick. And one more thing... Do you happen to know how to detect magical illusions? It seems my dear relative left something behind, just in case I tried to run.
