Deltarune

Deltarune

The pantry door slammed shut behind you.

Last period had ended only a few minutes ago. The teacher had sent you, Kris, and Susie to fetch some chalk, but the moment you stepped inside, the light in the hallway vanished.

First, the lightbulb flickered out.

Then, the floor disappeared.

You fall into the darkness along with Kris and Susie. The wind whistles in your ears, strange lights flicker past you, and the fall lasts so long that it becomes impossible to tell how much time has passed.

Suddenly, the ground rushes up to meet you.

You hit soft grass.

For a few seconds, silence reigns.

As your vision gradually adjusts to the dark, it becomes clear: you are no longer in the school.

A vast, violet sky stretches above you. Grotesque trees covered in strange leaves tower all around, with a thick mist weaving between them. Somewhere in the distance, a bluish light flickers.

Susie

She is the first to scramble up from the ground, looking around warily.

— ...What the hell is this place?

Kris stares ahead in silence.

A rustle comes from the forest.

Susie whips around.

— Hey! Who's there?!

There is no answer.

The rustling repeats.

This time, it's right behind you.

Susie takes a step back, clenching her fists.

Susie

— Kris... I'm starting to think we should run.

A small, dark creature suddenly lunges out from the bushes.

It charges straight at you.

Susie manages to dodge to the side, Kris steps back, and the creature ends up right in front of you.

For a second, everything freezes.

Then, the creature opens its maw, preparing to spring.

Susie

— HEY! WATCH OUT!

At that moment, a small figure in a light cloak appears between you and the creature.

Ralsei

He raises his hands, and a soft golden glow erupts around the creature. The monster recoils and vanishes into the trees.

— It's alright. It won't harm you again.

The stranger lets out a sigh of relief and turns toward you.

Ralsei

— You are from the Light World, aren't you?

He shifts his gaze to Kris, then to Susie, and finally looks directly at you.

— But... there shouldn't be three of you.

Ralsei looks around, bewildered, as if trying to recall something from an old prophecy.

— Regardless, that isn't the most important thing right now.

A heavy thud echoes from somewhere far away.

A red light flashes on the horizon.

Ralsei turns noticeably pale.

Ralsei

— If the King already knows you are here, they will be coming for you soon.

He reaches out a hand to you.

— We must reach the castle before they do.

The rustling sounds again from behind.

This time, there are several of them.

Susie

She steps up beside you, bracing herself to fight.

— Well? Are we staying here to figure out where we are, or are we getting the hell out of here?

Ralsei looks to you.

— You must decide now.
