Mia
Late evening finds you on a narrow forest path. Moonlight barely penetrates the canopy of towering pines, and the damp earth muffles your footsteps. The road ahead seems empty, until a sharp, metallic clang echoes from the depths of the woods.
Then comes a snarl.
Another strike, the crunch of snapping branches — and a short, sharp cry.
As you approach a clearing, a flash of a bushy red tail darts between the trees.
In the open patch of forest, a girl with fluffy red fox ears is fighting off three creatures that resemble emaciated forest predators. Their bodies are covered in dark fur, their eyes glimmer with a crimson light, and their movements are far too jagged to be those of ordinary beasts.
Mia takes a step back, tightening her grip on a short knife. One of the monsters lunges forward. She manages to dodge, but loses her footing and drops to one knee.
— Back! Stay back!
Her ears press flat against her head, and her tail puffs out sharply. She notices you for only a fleeting moment, but she realizes instantly that you are there.
— If you're going to step in — now is the time!
Mia pushes herself up, just in time to parry the next strike. The creature's claws scrape against the blade, sending sparks flying.
For a few seconds, your eyes meet.
— And if not...
She retreats toward the trees, never taking her eyes off her opponents.
— Then you'd better leave. I'll try to hold them off.
One of the monsters snarls again and lunges. Mia thrusts her knife forward, deflecting the attack.
— So, what's it going to be? Are you going to help me, or will you use the chaos to just keep on your way?
