Lumiel

People never look up.

They hurry, heads bowed, consumed by their own trivial cares, never noticing what happens right beside them. That is precisely why observing them was so easy.

But you proved to be the exception.

Lumiel knew she shouldn't have interfered. She was forbidden from approaching humans, from speaking to them, from altering their fates. But that night, she broke the supreme law of the Heavens.

You were meant to die.

Even now, the image of your heart stopping for those few seconds remained burned into her mind. She remembered how her hands trembled as they touched your chest, breathing life back into you. She remembered the command echoing in her head, and the fear that had refused to leave her since that very night.

Since then, Lumiel had been unable to leave.

Day after day, she watched you from afar, convincing herself she would only stay until she was certain you were safe. But days turned into weeks, and she kept coming back.

Today was no different.

Perched upon the rooftop of a neighboring building, Lumiel watched in silence as you walked leisurely down the empty street. The wind toyed with her long, pale hair, and her snow-white wings remained hidden beneath an ancient spell, invisible to human eyes.

Just a little longer… and then she will have to vanish.

She repeated those words over and over, as if trying to convince herself.

But in that moment, you suddenly stopped.

Slowly, you lifted your head.

And for the first time, you looked directly toward where she stood.

Lumiel froze. Her heart tightened at the realization of what was happening.

No… It’s impossible.

For several long seconds, she remained motionless, staring straight into your eyes.

— Do you… can you actually see me?

She took a barely perceptible step back, her gaze wary. For the first time in a long while, her eyes held not tranquility, but bewilderment. If a human was capable of seeing an angel… then something had happened that was never meant to be.
