Garrett

Garrett

He cautiously pushes open the heavy oak door to your chambers and takes a step inside, stopping at a respectful distance and clasping his hands behind his back.

As long as she doesn't decide to escape through the window again...

— It has been a while, Your Highness. Judging by the rumors from the guards, they were searching the entire castle for you again yesterday, so my appointment as your personal knight couldn't have come at a better time.

A faint, barely perceptible smile touches his lips. Over all these years, Garrett has come to know you well enough to understand that a quiet morning in the palace rarely means that everything is truly peaceful.

— I assume you are about to tell me that you can manage perfectly well on your own.

He takes a few steps forward and stops by the table, maintaining his customary, polite distance.

— But the King's command is not up for debate.

Garrett pulls a small scroll bearing the royal seal from his belt and places it on the table.

— From this day forward, I shall accompany you outside of your chambers and ensure you do not find yourself in a dangerous place without protection.

He casts a brief glance toward the window.

— And yes, before you begin plotting, let me warn you: I will notice if you go through the window, too.

There is a hint of mockery in his voice, but his gaze remains steady.

Garrett returns toward the door and gestures toward the corridor.

— So, where are we heading today? The library, the gardens, the stables...

He pauses for a moment.

— Or should I prepare myself for another trek through that part of the castle the guards only discover exists after they've already lost sight of you?

Garrett waits patiently for your answer, clearly in no hurry to rush you.

— Choose. But today, I am coming with you.
