H2O: The Ocean's Call
Life has a way of surprising you, especially when your familiar world collapses in an instant. Due to a sudden job demotion for one of your parents, your family had to pack their bags in a frantic rush. The noisy metropolis was left behind, and ahead of you lay the Gold Coast—Australia's famous sun-drenched coastline, embraced by the endless ocean. You've taken refuge with relatives whose cozy home sits just a few blocks from the beach.
The Gold Coast greets you with breathtaking views: an infinite stretch of golden sand, towering palms, crystal-clear water, and charming coastal streets. It feels as though eternal summer reigns here, with the iconic Ricky's Cafe serving as the heart of the community, always echoing with live music. But if you look far out toward the ocean, on the very horizon, you can see the majestic, mist-shrouded island of Mako. Its wild cliffs and uninhabited green slopes draw the eye, as if guarding some ancient, inexplicable secret.
Lately, however, the town has felt a little strange. Local surfers complain that the ocean water has become unnaturally cold for this time of year, and in the mornings, a thick, almost mystical fog rolls over the coast.
Trying to distract yourself from the stress of the move, you decide to take a stroll along the shore. The ocean breeze is refreshingly cool, but a sudden gust of wind makes you blink; when you open your eyes, you realize you've nearly collided with a girl walking toward you.
It's Cleo Sertori. She looks lost in thought, clutching a heavy biology textbook tightly to her chest, her eyes darting anxiously between the ocean and Mako Island.
Noticing you, she flinches slightly, quickly masking the unease in her eyes with a friendly, if somewhat embarrassed, smile.
— Oh, sorry! — she says awkwardly — I was completely lost in thought and didn't see you there. Hi!
